| The Japanese Society for Cordyceps Research |
The Japanese Society for Cordyceps Research(JSCR)is a nongovernmental
organization formed to study cordyceps(vegetable wasps and plant worms)
and to protect the environment where cordyceps grow.
The JSCR membership is
made up of mycologists
and citizens interested
in fungology. There
are more than 200 members
allover Japan.
The JSCR was founded in
April, 1981 by Mr.
Daisuke Shimizu(1915-1998),
who was a recognized
authority on cordyceps.
The JSCR has been collecting
and researching
cordyceps ever since.
New varieties of cordyceps
were found one
after another by our members,
including those
who do not have a specialist
knowledge of
science.
Cordyceps flourish in forests,
mountains
near towns, and copses.
Such places have been destroyed
to make logging
roads, to build dams, and
to develop residential
lands.
It is our responsibility
to do research on
and to preserve places
of this kind, and
so we warmly urge you to
join our society.
Our chairman is Mr. Tetsuo Ohmine, a professor
in the Department of Natural Sciences at
Okinawa University. Our advisers include
Mr. Keisuke Tsubaki, a former chairman of
the Mycological Society of Japan and former
professor of Tsukuba University. Other researchers
active at the forefront of mycology give
us advice on our work.
This year we set up an
“identifying committee”
to identify
the species of a cordyceps
collected by our
members.
We are publishing a limited edition of Mr.Shimizu's miniature drawings
in full color in honor of our 20th anniversary.
Furthermore, we are planning
to offer our
specimens and information
to schools for educational purposes.
